Join Us for the Family Holiday Dinner Party for Grades P-12! holiday

All families in the district are invited to join us for the Family Holiday Dinner Party on Tuesday, December 18th!  Enjoy a Turkey Dinner, decorate your own cookies, play games, and make an ornament craft, all between 5:00 and 7:00 PM.  At 7:00 PM, make your way to the auditorium to close out the evening with some holiday music from our talented LHS Band!  Reserve your dinner time by completing the RSVP Sheet and returning it to school!  We can't wait to see you at this special event!

Breakfast with Santa santa breakfast

Join us for Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 8th from 8:00am-12:00pm!  The cost is $5 and includes breakfast (pancakes, biscuits/gravy) and a photo with Santa.  See an LHS Softball Player for a presale ticket!  This event will be held in the cafeteria, and the PTO Santa's Workshop will also be open in Room M201.

Drug Free Clubs of America Brought to Ludlow drugfree

All students in Grades 7-12 are invited to enroll in the new Drug Free Club at Ludlow High School.  Students have been given brochures to bring home if they are interested.  If students are interested in joining, the BROCHURE needs to be signed by both the student and parent and returned to the HS Office.  This is a unique club that doesn’t necessarily meet regularly like other clubs.  To become a member, students commit to be drug free and volunteer to be drug tested.  The organization partners with St. Elizabeth Hospital.  Lab techs come to school to conduct these voluntary random tests.  Students who are members never know when they may get tested. All results are confidential and only shared with parents and students – school officials do NOT receive the results.

Plan to Attend Parent / Teacher Conferences conferences

Please plan to attend Parent/Teacher Conferences for your child.  Elementary conferences are scheduled individually.  If you haven't set one up yet, plesae contact your child's teacher.  In the high school, all parents can pick up report cards and test scores outside of the high school office between 5:00 and 7:00 PM on Tuesday, Octboer 23rd, and then go to each teacher's room to speak with them for an individual conference.  See any/all teachers you need to. 

Talking with your child's teacher at the end of the first quarter can help ensure a successful school year!  We hope to have 100% participation!

October 4th Varsity Football Game CANCELLED cancelled

The Dayton varsity football team has suffered numerous injuries over the past couple of weeks. Due to the number/severity of those injuries, our football game against Dayton this Thursday has been cancelled. The Hall of Fame and Alumni Cheerleader activities that were planned are cancelled. We appreciate everyone's understanding in this matter and wish the Dayton Football Team a speedy recovery.

Senior Parent Workshop 2019

All seniors and their parents are invited to our Senior Parent Workshop on Wednesday, September 12th at 7:00 PM in the Cafeteria.  Mrs. McMillen will be reviewing some very important items for senior year, including graduation requirements and reminders, ACT dates, the college application process, financial aid, and scholarships.  If both the senior and a parent cannot attend, it is still encouraged that one or the other come.  Senior Year is a fun one, but also a busy one full of important activities and deadlines -- We don't want you missing anything!  This meeting will help answer a lot of your questions!

HealthPoint's On-Site Summer Dates for Vaccines & Physicals

We have been given the opportunity again this summer to have THREE extra days for you to schedule appointments before our next school year begins.  We will have HealthPoint staff at the school from 8:30 AM-3:00 PM on the following dates:  June 18, July 23, and July 30.

Please fill out AND RETURN the enrollment packet if you do not alreayd have one completed and on file for 2017-18.  Appointments must be scheduled in advance:  Either CALL Nurse Ashley at 859-431-7242 and leave a message, or EMAIL her at nurseludlow@ludlow.kyschools.us.  You will get a return confirmation call or email.

Free Summer Meals in Our Cafeteria! summer meals

Free summer meals are back, served in our cafeteria daily.  Lunches are served from 11:15-12:45pm every weekday June 4th - August 3rd.  Meals are FREE to anyone age 18 or younger -- they do not have to be enrolled at Ludlow Independent Schools.  Adults, age 19 or older, can purchase a lunch for $3.50.  Due to summer school and summer camps, breakfast is also served daily from 8:30-9:15am during the month of June.  Click on the MENUS button at the top of our webpage to see what's cooking each day.  Stop in and enjoy a yummy meal from Mrs. Brownfield and our Wonderful Cafeteria Staff!

FREE Sports Physicals at St. Elizabeth on Saturday, June 2

St. Elizabeth will be offering FREE Sports Physicals on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 9:00am-1:00pm.  Ludlow students in need of the required KHSAA sports physical can get a ride there on the bus.  The bus leaves at 9:30 AM; students should meet in front of the cafeteria.  Students MUST bring a form (MS Form  HS Form) completed by their parent with them in order for St. Elizabeth to complete the physical.  This is a great opportunity to easily meet this sports requirement!  

U.S. Baseball Academy's Training Program is Coming to LHS! baseballacademy

The U.S. Baseball Academy is coming to LHS June 18-21!  The program offers specific clinics for a variety of baseball skills for Grades 1-9.  Proces vary, based on the number of sessions desired.  See the FLYER for details, prices, and registration information.  These clinics are a fundraiser for our LHS Baseball Team!

K-PREP Testing for Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11 KPREP

All students in Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 11 will participate in the state K-PREP from May 15-21.  Parents, please help support your child by encouraging them to try hard and give their best work each day.  These make for long days, so getting a full night of sleep and eating a healthy breakfast can certainly help students.  Being here every day, and on time, is also crucial.  

We want to continue our tradition of excellence and show others around the commonwealth what PANTHER PRIDE we have!

Prom & After-Prom prom

Ludlow's Prom will be held at Receptions Banquet Hall on April 28th from 8:00pm-12:00am.  Tickets cost $50/person and includes a full dinner.  Enjoy a memorable night of food, dancing, photographs, great music, and lots of fun!

Ludlow holds an After-Prom, sponsored by the Family Resource & Youth Service Center.  This year's event takes place at Sport of All Sorts from 1:00-5:30am.  The bus leaves LHS by 12:45am to head to SOAS, and then leaves to return to LHS at 5:30am.  The cost is only $5, and includes pizza, drinks, games, basketball, volleyball, bowling, and lots of fun!  See the FLYER for details.  Students will receive a ticket once they sign up to attend; parents will be notified if students so not show up.  Our goal is to provide a SAFE & FUN celebration after the prom!

 

Schools are CLOSED on Monday, April 2 monday

Ludlow Independent Schools will be CLOSED on Monday, April 2, 2018. Faculty members will be in Frankfort advocating for public education since a budget bill will be discussed in the legislature on Monday.  Students can still come in the cafeteria between 11:30am and 12:30pm to get a FREE bagged lunch!

Students are Raising Money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society LLS

The 6th Grade & LHS National Honor Society are partnering to raise awareness and money to help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  These groups are running a campaign throughout the district from April 2nd-6th. Students can pay to wear the attire for each spirit day.  All money collected will be donated to help the causes of the LLS.

Congratulations, Mr. Wright! congrats

Congratulations to Mr. Chris Wright!  Chris is being recognized by the Kentucky Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts on February 24th at their annual conference.  Mr. Wright was selected as the council's High School Teacher of the Year!  Chris will receive a plaque and a free one-year membership to the council.

Staff Email Outage During Server Migration no email

Please be aware that the Kentucky Department of Education is moving our district to a new email server.  This move is scheduled to start on Thursday afternoon, February 22nd.  The migration could last until sometime Monday, February 26th.  All faculty and staff members will NOT be able to access their email during this period.  If you need to contact a faculty or staff member during this period, please call one of our offices: Elementary School (261-2100), High School (261-8211), or the District Office (261-8210).

Nominate SBDM

Each year, two parents and three teachers are elected in May to serve as SBDM Council members for Ludlow High School.  As school populations diversify, the state requires that the SBDM Council mirror the student demographics.  When the minority population of a school exceeds 8% of total enrollment, state law requires that a minority member must be elected to Council.  This school year, we have exceeded this percentage and must add a minority parent member to our Council to ensure minority representation.

 

Anyone interested in nominating himself/herself as a minority member of the Ludlow High School SBDM Council, please submit your name to the high school office no later than October 24.  An election for the new parent representative on Council will take place at the PTO bonfire on the evening of Thursday, October 26 at the softball field.

Any girl and their parent/guardian in grades 7-12 interested in playing softball this spring should plan to attend an informational meeting on Thursday, October 19, at 7:00 PM in the cafeteria. 

Early Dismissal & Fall Break fall break

On Wednesday, October 11th, all students will be dismissed at 1:15PM.  There will be no after-school SHINE or SOAR.  Schools are then closed on Thursday and Friday, October 12th and 13th.  Enjoy the Fall Break!

1st Quarter Progress Reports Sent Home on Friday, Sept 15 progress report

HealthPoint Summer Hours for Vaccines & Physicals - On School's Campus healthpoint

To make it easier for parents/guardians to get their child the appropriate vaccine, physical, or medical exam they may need for school purposes, we are offering summer opportunities!  As you know, HealthPoint Family Care has a medical office on the Ludlow Schools Campus.  It will be staffed three days over the next few weeks so that parents can make an appointment for their child to be seen.

FREE Athletic Physicals on Saturday physicals

St. Elizabeth is offering free sports physicals on Saturday, June 3rd from 9:00am to 1:00pm at Commonwealth Orthopedics Center in Edgewood.  If you plan on participating in a sport next year, please take advantage of this opportunity!  Print the KHSAA Physical Form HERE.  If a student needs transportation, he/she should meet in front of the HS Gym for the bus at 11:00am.  The form MUST be completed/signed ahead of time by a parent/guardian.

Book Fair! April 27-May 3 Spring Book Fair

Seniors: Local Scholarship Apps Due April 24 local

All seniors should review the local scholarship packet and apply for any scholarships for which they qualify.  All applications and required attachments (if applicable) are due to Mrs. Currin by 3:10 PM on Monday, April 24.  Parents, please take a few moments and review this packet with your son/daughter and assist them with applications.  See details and the packet HERE.  Our seniors are lucky to have a very generous community!

SOAR Family Night: Relationship Smarts family

After-School & Evening Activities Cancelled Today Activity Cancellations Due To Snow

Due to the weather forecast, all after-school programs and activities are CANCELLED today (Thursday, January 5). This includes SHINE, SOAR, ESS, Basketball Games/Practices, Quick Recall, and the After-School Meal Program. Please plan for student pick-up at 3:10 PM.

Team-Building Day for Grades 4-12 Team Building

Our Advisory Groups for Grades 4-12 are kicking off this week with a fun Team Building Day!  Students in grades 4-12 are asked to wear their class' color (although it is not mandatory).  Each grade level will head to the stadium for about 2 hours of fun team and leadership-building activities.  This week, a LETTER (click it for a copy) went home with students so parents can read about details of the day as well as specifics on our advisory groups.

 

Senior Parent Meeting Wednesday LHS Senior Parent Meeting

Senior Year is full of news, updates, and deadlines. Stay on top of all of them by attending the LHS Senior Parent Meeting on Wednesday, Sept 7 at 6:00pm in the cafeteria. Mrs. Currin will be reviewing graduation items, explaining college and career planning items, and going over the new rules/deadlines of the FAFSA (financial aid application). Senior Year can be a hectic one, but this meeting will help it run a bit smoother. All seniors and at least one parent/guardian are strongly encouraged to attend!

Free SHINE & SOAR Summer Camps for Incoming Grades K-9 Shine & Soar Summer Camps

We have lots of fun planned for the month of June!  Free 21st CCLC summer camps are offered to all Ludlow students entering Grades K-9.  Camps include free breakfast, lunch, field trips, fun visitors, and cool enrichment activities!  Most age groups have openings if you still need to register.  SHINE Camps are for incoming Grades K-6 and SOAR Camps are for incoming Grades 7-9.  See flyers for themes and contact details: SHINE and SOAR.  Contact Shannon Adcock for SHINE and Melanie Beccaccio for SOAR.

Fine Arts Showcase on Thursday Night! Fine Arts

All families for Grades P-12 are invited to attend our Fine Arts Showcase Thursday night, April 27th between 5:30 and 8:00pm.  From 5:30-7:00pm, we'll have the LHS Art Show, elementary artwork/writing on display, SHINE & SOAR work on display, and interactive music and painting stations for students. Learn how to play the piano on a Makey Makey too!  Chorua performaces at 5:30 (HS) and 6:30 (ES).  The Band will start performances in the auditorium at 7:00pm.  Click on the FLYER for details.

Senior Parent Financial Aid Meeting Financial Aid 101

Seniors & Parents:  Attend Ludlow's Workshop on December 9th at 6:30pm to learn more about the financial aid process.  The FAFSA will be discussed (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).  The FAFSA is the application for students/parents to complete in order to qualify for various grants, loans, and even some scholarships.  ALL students planning for college should complete this!  Learn more about other financial aid opportunities at this meeting too!  Plan to attend on the 9th at 6:30pm in the cafeteria.  Contact Melissa Currin for more information:  melissa.currin@ludlow.kyschools.us

Thank You, Duke Energy!

Thank you to Duke Energy and the 100+ volunteers who helped spruce up Ludlow Park and the ball fields on October 16th!  Volunteers included Duke Energy employees, community members, school staff, and students.  We are grateful for the commitment to improve our community! 

The project included new playground equipment, a new mural (it was painted, and will be hung soon), new picnic tables, new bleachers, landscaping, lights at Hollingsworth Field, and lots of new paint all over!  We are excited about this makeover!  We take pride in our community!

Congratulations, Ludlow Students, Staff, and Families!  Based on our spring test scores, Ludlow has been named a PROFICIENT, HIGH PROGRESS DISTRICT!  Overall, we scored higher than 84% of other districts across the state.  Our "High Progress" status indicates that we were in the Top 10% of growth this past year, compared to all other districts.  We are proud of these results!  We know countless hours of hard work and dedication on everyone's part contributes to this honor.  We are proud of our panthers!

Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to register for the October 24th ACT.  We are hosting the test here at LHS.  This October test is an incredibly important one for seniors due to college admissions and scholarship deadlines.  Go to www.actstudent.org to register!  You must register by Friday, September 18th at midnight for this test!  If you are in need of a fee waiver, please contact Mrs. Currin ASAP!

We Want Our Panthers to SHINE & SOAR!

Did you know that Ludlow offers FREE before-school and after-school programs for Grades K-9 that include homework help, tutoring, enrichments, clubs, and fun activities?  SHINE & SOAR sessions start on September 8th.  Students can participate in the morning, or afternoon sessions -- or both!

Dual Credit Parent Meeting

For Parents/Guardians of Sophomores & Juniors:  Last week, your son/daughter may have been invited to a meeting at school to learn about a new dual credit opportunity that will be offered through Gateway Community & Technical College next school year.  Students were invited if they met the three requirements for admission (GPA, test scores, attendance). 

If they attended the meeting and were interested in the program, they left with a folder containing an application for the program, a student/parent contract, and a flyer for the mandatory parent informational meeting.  They were expected to share this with you that evening.  Hopefully that happened!  You are encouraged to ask your son/daughter about this information if they attended the meeting. 

If you are interested in this dual credit opportunity, parents/guardians are asked to attend a MANDATORY PARENT MEETING on Thursday, April 23rd at 6:30pm in the cafeteria.  Forms they received can be found HERE.

Report Cards for the 2nd Quarter were sent home with students in Grades 4-12 on Friday, January 9th. 

 

We encourage parents to take a few minutes to review their son/daughter's academic progress and attendance with them.  Your involvement in this process is very important!  If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email your child's teacher.

With the cold weather hitting, please be sure that students are dressed appropriately for the weather.  We encourage students to wear hats, coats, and gloves/mittens to school, especially if they are walking.  Warm socks with shoes/boots are essential too.

Our new Red Cross Club needs your help!  They are collecting boxes of holiday greeting cards to send to members of the military.  LHS students will write a message on the card, sign it, then send them off to active members on duty around the world.

 

Interested in helping?  Turn in a box of holiday cards to Mrs. High or the LHS Office over the next couple of weeks.  These cards will receive a hand-written note and then find a good home!

Wednesday, August 13th at 9:00am: 
All 7th graders can come in for the 7th Grade Orientation.  Tour the building and learn more about life in the high school.  You can pay fees and get your schedule too!

 

Thursday, August 14th from 9:00-11:30am: 
It's LHS Schedule Pick-Up & Fee Payment Day!  Stop by the HS Office to pick up your schedule early and pay your school fees.  Fees can be paid by cash, check or credit card (Mastercard, Visa, Discover).

March Madness for 7th & 8th Grades

It's time for March Madness!  Our annual March Madness Night will be held on Thursday, March 20th from 7:00-9:00 PM in the cafeteria and is open to Ludlow High School 7th & 8th grade students and their parents/guardians.  Admission includes pizza, snacks, drinks, & a chance at some great door prizes!  You must arrive by 7:30 PM and you must be present to win the door prizes.  Games will be  shown on TVs all evening!

 

Pre-sale tickets will be sold in Ms. Goodpaster’s room for $4.00 from March 12th-17th.  Any student purchasing a pre-sale ticket will receive a shirt at March Madness.  Tickets may be purchased at the door for $5.00, but students will not be guaranteed a shirt.

Juniors Take the ACT Tuesday!

All 11th graders around the commonwealth of Kentucky will be doing one thing Tuesday morning:  Taking the ACT.  As part of the state's assessment system, it is mandated that juniors take this test to measure their college and career readiness.  Scores can be used by the students for their own college admissions and scholarship purposes, even though the test is given during the school day.  Each student's goal is to at least reach the state's benchmark in three areas:  English (18), Math (19), and Reading (20). 

 

We ask that ALL 11th GRADERS be at school ON TIME on Tuesday, March 4th.  We know our juniors will show their Panther Pride and work their hardest on the ACT.

Ludlow High School Basketball featured on WLWT

WLWT stopped by the LHS basketball game last Friday to capture the Panthers trouncing Villa Madonna's Blue Lightning. Featured in the video are Kalib Mitchell, Jacob Stamper as Ludlow won 85 to 45. The Panthers are currently undefeated in the conference. There is still plenty of action these next two weeks. The boys play at home  Feb 10th,  Feb 14th,  Feb 15th, Feb 18th and 19th. Come support them as they try to hold on to their conference lead.

The LHS Play is This Weekend! The LHS Play is This Weekend!

Once upon a time, long before Walt Disney delighted audiences with stories of princesses, dwarves, glass slippers, and singing animals, the Brothers Grimm collected much darker, gorier versions of these fairy tales. 

 

Ludlow High School’s upcoming production of The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon explores these stories as two narrators attempt to guide the audience through a comedic mash-up of 209 tales.

 

Show times include Saturday, Feb 22nd at 7:00pm and Sunday, Feb 23rd at 2:00pm.  Tickets are $5 at the door.

Our district is working with the NKY Chamber of Commerce and the NKY Education Council to bring a Business Engagement Tour to Ludlow!  The event takes place in Wednesday, January 29th from 8:30-10:00am.

 

Members from area businesses, colleges, organizations, and the community will visit our district for a tour, hear from students, and learn more about how to support and get involved in our schools.  Each visitor will leave with an engagement toolkit.

LHS Now Offers Morning Study Groups!

Exams are right around the corner and we are getting down to crunch time!  LHS is now offering Morning Study Groups from 7:30-8:10 in the HS Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Students can use this time to catch up or get ahead on work, get on the computers for research or typing or can just get some general insight from some of our teachers.  Tuesdays are Science and English while Thursdays are Math and Social Studies.  We will always have 4 teachers available both days (2 middle school and 2 high school).  We look forward to seeing you there and good luck on your exams!  Click here for the 1st Semester Exam Schedule.

November 11th - 15th is College Application Week!  LHS seniors will be participating in activities throughout the week.  In addition to receiving help on completing their applications, seniors will be sending their transcripts, working on their resumes, learning more about scholarships and financial aid, researching employers who reimburse for tuition, researching their KEES money, and working on their ILPs.

Suicide Prevention in the Schools

House Bill 51 requires every public middle and high school administrator to disseminate suicide prevention awareness information to all middle and high school students by September 1st of each school year.

Students at LHS will be meeting with Ms. Currin starting August 23rd through August 30th to hear valuable information concerning suicide prevention.  Grade levels will be meeting with Ms. Currin during the PAICE period each day.

Rupp Arena event moved to Lexington Christian Academy
Due to NCAA recruiting rule change, which passed at 10:00pm on Nov 24th. No high school basketball games can be played at a collegiate arena. The game against Sayer High School will be at 3:00pm at Lexington Christian  Academy. Ticket sales will be refunded. The fan bus will not be going now so anyone who would like to attend needs to find alternative transportation.
Volleyball Team Breaks School Record!
 On Wednesday, October 5th, the varsity volleyball team broke the school record for most wins in a volleyball regular season when they beat Williamstown 25-19 and 25-11. The team has won a total 26 games this season.

Friday, September 9th at 3:15 LHS students will rush to their grade level float building site and Homecoming week will officially begin! Candidates have been chosen and are shopping for the "perfect dress." Students will spend the weekend putting together their outfits for spirit week. Why all this madness? It's Homecoming week. Homecoming is one of Ludlow schools' best traditions. Our own personal holiday with floats, candidates, and spirit week, Homecoming is the most wonderful time of the school year!

Need Extra Help?
After-School Tutoring (ESS) begins on Tuesday, September 6th.  After-school tutoring will take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15-4:15pm in the library.  ALL students in grades 7 through 12 are allowed to attend ESS as needed; there is no sign-up required.  The library is open for students who need to come in and use the computers or get extra help with their work.  Several teachers will be available on these days to help students with classwork or homework.  Students, if you find yourself struggling with the material in a class at this point in the year, coming to ESS on Tuesdays and Thursdays can really help!  Keep in mind that every Friday from 7:30-8:10am is also a great time to meet with teachers and get extra help on your work.

Welcome back everyone! The custodial staff has been working hard to get the building spick and span, the football coaches gave the stadium a fresh coat of paint, the teachers are rested and the students have probably all grown. Now its time for new classes, new teachers,new school supplies and a fresh start.
We're excited to say hello to a few new staff members. The elementary is under new leadership with a new Principal, Jason Steffen.  There are seven new teachers in the elementary: Rachel Auciello, Jenn Fielder, Lauren Fisher, Christine Grothaus, Kristina Nickson, Kyle Holloway and Anna Kelly.  In the high school we have 3 new teachers: Michelle Combs, Rob Sawyer and Daniel Tracy.
We're looking forward to a great new year!

Wear PURPLE on Thursday, May 3, to support one of our own preschoolers, Abby Couch.  Abby has Cystic Fibrosis and is facing a life-threatening surgery this month.  We want to show this little panther how supportive our Ludlow Schools family is!  Wear purple to show your support and love!  Boxes for change donations will be sent around to classrooms on Thursday, with all proceeds going to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

SBDM Nominations & Elections for 2016-2017 School-Based Decision Making Council

We are looking for nominations for both schools' Parent Representatives for SBDM for the 2016-2017 school year.  Each School-Based Decision Making Council includes parents, teachers, and an administrator of the school.  The council has the responsibility to set school policy and make decisions outlined in statute, which should provide an environment to enhance student achievement.  The council generally meets once per month in the afternoon or evening.  If you'd like to nominate yourself to serve on the council of the school your child will be enrolled for 2016-17, please complete the nomination form and submit it to the school's office by 3:30PM on May 2, 2016.

Our annual March Madness Night will be held on Friday, March 18 from 7:00-9:00 PM in the cafeteria.  All 7th and 8th Grade Students and their Parents/Guardians are invited to hang out, watch the NCAA games, and enjoy pizza, snacks, drinks, and have a chance to win some great door prizes!  Tickets cost $5 each and can be purchased ahead of time in Ms. Goodpaster's Room (M310).  Those purchasing pre-sale tickets are guaranteed a T-shirt on March 18th.  JOIN US!  Thank you to the Family Resource & Youth Service Center for sponsoring this fun event!

The Boys & Girls Basketball Teams are hosting a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, February 27 from 9:00-11:30am in the Cafeteria.  The cost is $5 per person.  Enjoy a delicious breakfast while supporting our basketball teams!  This event is open to the community.  Invite your friends and family!

All juniors across the commonwealth will take the required ACT on Tuesday, March 1st.  Testing begins promptly at 8:20AM.  We hope to have another year of 100% attendance on test day!  We wish the Class of 2017 well as they take the ACT on March 1st, and have great confidence that they will continue our tradition of academic excellence.  Go, Panthers!

Join Us at STEM WARS Night! STEM WARS

Reserve your spot this week for our upcoming STEM WARS Night!  On February 17th at 5:45pm, you can become a Master Jedi by completing some fun math and science challenges, and enjoy a family dinner -- the legendary "school spaghetti" with salad and cornbread.  Afterwards, make a yummy C3P0 Dessert together.  This fun family event is open to all students in grades K-9 and their families.  RSVP Sheets are due by Friday, February 12th (one per household) and can be turned it to any teacher.

We are looking for some 10th, 11th, and 12th grade leaders to help volunteer at this event.  Sign up in the cafeteria if you are interested in earning service hours.

Art Award for Sophomore Madison Roy!

Congratulations to sophomore Madison Roy!  Madison received an Honorable Mention in the All 'A' Classic's Art Competition.  Madison's artwork ranked in the top four of the competition, which sought art designs from high school students to use for the cover of their tournament program.  Awesome work from a talented young artist!

FAFSA Help for Senior Parents

If you need help filing your FAFSA you can go Thomas More College on the following Saturdays: January 16, & 23.  Representatives will be available to help you complete the application.  You will need to bring all the necessary paperwork needed to file the FAFSA.  You do NOT need to be attending Thomas More to get this assistance.  Appointments are available from 10:00am-12:00pm.  Call 344-3319 to schedule.  This is a free service from KHEAA and the area colleges.  Make your appointment today to get the help you need!

The LHS Band will put on their annual Holiday Concert on Thursday, December 8th at 7:00PM in the Faragher Fine Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the community! Stop in for some holiday cheer and to support our talented students!

Parent/Teacher Conferences PT

With the 1st quarter ending, it's time for our Parent/Teacher Conferences.  These meetings and conversations are crucial to a student's success.  Please plan to attend to learn more about your child's progress and how you can support them better academically outside of school.  We invite all parents to attend!

Elementary School:  Conferences are scheduled for October 23rd and 24th between 3:30 and 6:00pm (or as needed).  Teachers schedule individual conferences with each parent.  If you still need to do that, please contact your child's teacher.

High School:  Teachers will be available in their room on Tuesday, October 24th from 5:00-7:00pm.  Pick up report cards and test scores in the lobby area, then make your way to the teachers' rooms.  

 

Senior Parent Workshop TONIGHT! parents

All seniors and their parents/guardians are invited to attend the Senior Parent Workshop on Wednesday, September 6th at 6:00pm in the cafeteria.  Lots of valuable resources on the following topics will be given: graduation, the college admissions process, transcipts, financial aid, and scholarships.

FREE Athletic Physicals June 11th

Any incoming 6th -12th grade student who plans to participate in a sport during the 2015-2016 year is required to turn in a completed KHSAA form after having a physical. Students are required to have this completed and on file with the school BEFORE students can try out or practice.  To make this easier for parents and students, FREE physicals will be given for 6th-12th graders on Thursday, June 11th at 6:00pm in the LHS Office.  Bring the KHSAA form along with the athlete's insurance or medical card. Click Below for Details & Forms:

Congratulations to three talented young ladies!  They've recently been recognized:

Hannah Hutton (7th grade) recently performed at the NKY Solo & Ensemble Festival and received a "Distinguished" rating! 

Allie Johnson (10th grade) won 3rd Place in Fiction in the Northern Kentucky University Creative  Writing Contest!

Cymphony Macaraniag (12th grade) won 1st Place in a writing contest sponsored by the Covington Art Club!  Cymphony will receive a $500 prize and will be honored at a luncheon later this month.

Celebrate the incredible talent of our Ludlow Panthers from both schools!  Please join us on Monday, May 11th from 6:00-8:00pm for this fine arts showcase.  Student work will be on display, our choirs will perform, our bands will perform, and there will be interactive music and art stations for younger children.  The Book Fair is also open in the Elementary Library all evening!

Tee Times Available for Our Upcoming Golf Outing! golf

FREE Athletic Physicals TONIGHT! FREE Athletic Physicals TONIGHT!

Per KHSAA regulations, all athletes must have the required sports physical form completed, along with an exam, before students can participate in any season.  To help parents, Ludlow High School has arranged for FREE athletic physicals to take place at school on Wednesday, May 28th at 6:00pm.  Use the Adela Avenue entrance and report to the front lobby area near Elm Street.  Parents must complete the required packet BEFORE arriving, and provide a copy of the student's health insurance or medical card.

Remember that students currently in grades 6-11 who are planning to participate in the fall, winter, or spring season of the 2014-2015 school year will need to complete these physical forms.

The annual PTO May Festival is a longtime tradition at Ludlow Independent Schools.  Come out for some great food, fun games, cool prizes, exciting rides, silent auctions, and good old family fun!  This year, the festival runs for TWO DAYS!  Join us for Friday, May 2nd from 5:00-11:00pm and Saturday, May 3rd from 1:00-9:00pm.  Remember that proceeds help benefit the PTO as well as various school organizations and teams.  You won't want to miss a minute of the fun this weekend!  We can't wait to see you!

Fine Arts Showcase & Spaghetti Dinner on April 26 Fine Arts Festival Thursday

Come and enjoy a night of art and music on Thursday, April 26 between 5:30 and 8:00pm.  The LHS Library and surrounding hallways will be filled with beautiful artwork and photography created by our own students, both elementary and high school.  Musicians and Artists will be performing in the hallways too.  Our bands will perform in the auditorium at 7:00pm.  Join us on April 26th as our Ludlow students showcase their creative talent and hard work from this year!

BONUS this year:  The Football Team is hosting a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser from 6:00-8:00pm the same night in the cafeteria!  The cost is $5 for everyone's favorite "school spaghetti" meal!

Panther Pride Scholarships Awarded Grades K-12 Panther Pride Scholarships Awarded Grades K-12

Each year, one $200.00 Panther Pride Scholarship is awarded to one student in every grade level K-12.  A student can receive the award more than one year.  Each student's total amount will be awarded to them when they receive their diploma from Ludlow High School. 

Applications were recently sent home with students but can also be viewed or printed HERE.  Students should turn in completed applications to their school office by May 9th.  Winners are announced at each school's May Awards Program.

All students and families in the district are invited to Thursday's Family Health & Fitness Night!  It will take place on April 7th from 5:30-7:00pm in the cafeteria and the first floor of the elementary school. 

There will be lots of booths and activities for students and families.  Healthy snacks to sample, free goodies, and great information to kick off a healthy spring!  Try a Zumba class in the cafeteria too!  It's open for everyone!

Scheduling for the 2014-2015 School Year

Now that Spring is in full bloom it is time for Ludlow High School Students to register for their 2014-2015 courses.  Ms. Currin will be doing this with all students in grades 8-11 in the next few weeks.  The first meeting will be with 11th Graders on April 10th. 

During these meetings, students will receive a planning booklet, detailing all of the course choices along with other important information.  Students will be instructed to bring these booklets home to share with parents/guardians. 

Registering for courses is done online through the Infinite Campus portal (the same site used to check grades).  Students will make preliminary choices when working with Ms. Currin, but will still be able to make changes online through the end of May.  Once students have made their final choices, they will bring home a printout of their selected courses that parents/guardians must sign and return to school.  The form is due to Ms. Currin no later than May 9, 2014.

Juniors Take the ACT on March 20th! ACT

On Tuesday, March 20th, all public school juniors in the commonwealth will be doing the same thing:  Taking the ACT.  Parents are asked to be sure that their 11th grade son/daughter is at school in this day by 8:20 AM.  Please be sure your son/daugther has a full night of sleep and a healthy breakfast so that they are able to give their best on the test.  We know we can count on the LHS Class of 2019 to continue our tradition of excellence.  Best of luck to our Junior Class!

Congratulations, Grace McClurg! gatton

Congratulations to LHS Sophomore Grace McClurg!  Grace was accepted into the Gatton Academy of Mathematics & Science!  Gatton sits on the campus of Western Kentucky University.  Grace will live on the campus and take a full college course load during her junior and senior years.  She will be one of 190 students around the commonwealth attending this fall.  Congratulations to Grace!  We wish her the best of luck in this prestigious program!

​Details on tomorrow night's Holiday Dinner Party:

We will have a packed house tomorrow (Thursday, December 7), so we are asking everyone's cooperation and attention to time.  We want everyone to enjoy a nice meal as a family and participate in some fun activities together.

In the cafeteria during your dinner reservation time, you will also decorate cookies with sprinkles (we'll bake them so you can take them home warm!), and complete a family talk activity about your favorite holiday tradition.  We've allowed 40 minutes for this.

In addition, other rooms/hallway areas will include:  Book Bingo (play a few games with a chance for kids to win a new book of their choice), Holiday Math Games, and a craft.  The craft includes each person making a personalized ornament using Scrabble pieces.

LHS Drama Club Presents "Game of Tiaras" tiaras

Coming Soon: The LHS Drama Club presents Game of Tiaras.  When the aging king of a Magical Kingdom (England) decides to split his empire between his three daughters, Cinderella, Belle, and the Snow Queen (who in no way resembles a copyrighted character), terrible tragedy ensues. Terrible, hilarious tragedy. Combining the gut-wrenching plot twists of Game of Thrones and the soul-numbing despair of Shakespearean tragedy, this adaptation of King Lear will leave you dying with laughter as the body count mounts. When you play the Game of Tiaras, you win or you die.

Born Learning Academy Supports Parents with Very Young Children born learning

Did you know that the most significant brain development takes place from birth to age 3?  And 90% of development occurs by age 5?  With this in mind, are you looking for new ways to best support and nurture your very young child?  Our Born Learning Academy can help you do this!  Once a month, our academy is held for parents with children ages Birth to 5 Years.  Each family in attendance is treated to dinner as a family first.  Then, kids go participate in a fun activity while parents learn about ways to help their child with learning at home.  Reading strategies, incorporating math at home, nutrition, emphasizing manners and kindness, and positive discipline are just a few of the topics covered throughout the year.  At the end of the evening, each family will leave with a household gift, such as laundry detergent, groceries, or books for their child(ren).  We want you here!  See the FLYER for dates, times, and details!  We hope to see you here!

Once again, we are celebrating the hard work of our students and staff by throwing a Fall Festival!  Kudos to everyone for our schools and district all being named PROFICIENT!  Our Fall Festival will take place on Friday, October 28th at the stadium.  Students in K-6 will attend in the morning and Grades 7-12 will attend in the afternoon.  All students should dress appropriately for outdoors.  Wear a sweater / jacket and gym shoes.  Lunch will be served at the stadium.  Games, arts, and inflatables will be available for all to enjoy!  See the parent letter for details -- this was sent home with students on October 24th.

KPREP and End-of-Course Testing will take place throughout the month of May.  Our district was named a Proficient District last year due to our scores, so we are confident our panthers are ready to go "beyond" that!  Check out the calendar on this webpage to see what specific tests take place each day.  How can parents help?  Help your child get a full night of rest before a day of testing, and see that they eat a healthy breakfast each morning.  We know our panthers' scores will be out of this world: To Proficiency... And Beyond!      (Note: This picture of Buzz Lightyear was a collaborative mosaic project completed in 2012.  Mr. Keller's high school art students worked with our elementary students to create each piece of this mural.)

Get ready for May 4 & 5 -- It's Ludlow May Festival Time!  Our PTO has put together a great weekend full of food, games, rides, raffles, and fun!

Check out the fun on Friday from 5-11 PM and on Saturday from 12-8 PM.  Friday's special activities include the yummy "School Spaghetti" Dinner, the silent auction (closes at 8 PM) and the SBDM elections.  Saturday's festivities include the Ticket Raffle (closes at 6 PM).

LHS Students Support Ludlow Senior Center with Prom & Food Drive seniors center

Ms. Combs' Civics Class recently visited the Ludlow Senior Center to help with their Senior Prom.  Check out Channel 12's coverage of the story HERE.  Students talked, danced, and played Bingo with the seniors who attended.  LHS students want to strengthen the relationships built at this fun event by helping them restock their Food Pantry.  Many area senior citizens are in need of some basic food items.  LHS will be running a Food Drive April 18-29 to help fill this need.  Find their Wish List HERE.  Send in items to LHS so they can help our area seniors!

Congratulations to junior Katie Warndorf!  She graduated from the Regional Youth Leadership Program in March.  Run by the NKY Chamber of Commerce, RYL accepts incoming juniors each spring from high schools around the NKY and Greater Cincinnati region.  This past year, Katie has participated with these students and various business and education leaders to focus on topics including, Law & Justice, Government & Politics, Economic Development, Diversity, and Arts & Culture.  She even became a Kentucky Colonel too!  We are so proud that Katie represented the Panthers this year at RYL!  Click HERE to learn more about RYL.

What are you doing this weekend?  The LHS Drama Program has been working hard for the past few months to present Acting Can Be Murder.  Catch one of the shows:  Saturday at 7PM or Sunday at 2PM.  You’ll be seeing two shows in one:  All is going well for Beverly Gladstone and her cast, who are in rehearsals for Which Butler Did It?  Things take an abrupt turn when leading lady Guinevere Black suddenly departs for Europe, leaving understudy Delores Gordon to step into her role.  However, as you’ll see in the opening minutes of the play, things are not as they seem.  We hope you enjoy seeing Beverly try to get ready for opening night while dealing with off-stage drama, sub-par acting talent, and a whole lot of secrets!

Support Ludlow's SOUPer Bowl, Jan 25-29 SOUPer Bowl

Forget the touchdown dances and those infamous commercials -- Help out Ludlow's own SOUPer Bowl!   Both schools are collecting cans of soup (or other non-perishables) to be donated to food pantries in the Ludlow community. Please bring in items January 25th - 29th.  We appreciate your support of our school and community!

FREE Ludlow Family Skate Night

As part of our PEP Grant, Ludlow families are invited to the Free Family Skate Night at Jimmie's Rollerdrome on Sunday, December 13th from 5:00-7:00pm.  Join us for an evening of skating fun with the family!  For more information or directions to Jimmie's click HERE.

 

MAP Testing, March 7-18 Maps

The third session of MAP testing will begin on March 7th and conclude March 18th.  All students in Grades K-11 will take the series of tests in reading, language useage, math, and science.  Scores are used to see growth from the fall testing to this spring session.  Results are analyzed by school leaders and teachers to adjust and individualize instruction as needed for each student.  Parents/Guardians, if you have a question about the specific dates your child tests, please contact their teacher or the school office.

Summer Camp Registrations Open

June 3rd might be the last day of school, but we have lots of FREE summer fun planned for students on our campus!  For incoming K-6 students, SHINE will provide summer learning fun from 9:00am-3:00pm, Monday through Friday.  For incoming 7-12 students, PEP will offer some summer fitness fun, Monday through Friday from 12:00-3:30pm.  Check out the brochures below for details and weekly themes/activities.  FREE Summer Breakfasts & Lunches will be provided on all camp days for ANYONE age 18 years and younger.

It's Time for PTO's May Festival! It's Time for PTO's May Festival!

The Ludlow PTO will be holding the annual May Festival on Friday, May 1st from 5:00-11:00pm and Saturday, May 2nd from 3:00-10:00pm.  There will be food, rides, games, prizes, and LOTS OF FUN!  The traditional "School Spaghetti" Dinner will take place on Friday evening in the cafeteria.  Plan now to attend!  You won't want to miss out on this fun annual Ludlow event!

See "Suite Surrender" Feb 28 & March 1

The LHS Drama Program has been working hard for the past few months to present Suite Surrender.  The auditorium has been transformed into the 1940s Palm Beach Royale Hotel and Spa.  Two feuding divas, Claudia McFadden and Athena Sinclair, are both booked to perform at a wartime benefit.  Their rooms are supposed to be on opposite ends of the hotel, but a mixup finds them both booked in the Presidential Suite. Comedy ensues as hotel manager Bernard S. Dunlap, along with frazzled personal secretaries and hapless bellhops, attempt to keep the divas away from each other, while a gossip reporter tries to get the scoop of her life.

1st Semester Exams

All students in grades 7-12 will take 1st semester exams on December 18th and 19th.  Students will take exams for class periods 1, 4, and 6 on Thursday, December 18th.  On Friday, December 19th, they will take exams for their 2nd, 3rd, and 5th period classes.

 

Remember that these exams count as 20% of the semester grade.  Studying ahead of time is crucial!  Find some good study tips and reminders HERE.

It's Homecoming Week! homecoming

No one does Homecoming quite like Ludlow!  

Wear your crazy red and black on Friday!  The pep rally will take place Friday afternoon.  The parade kicks off around town at 6:00PM, led by Grand Marshal Vickie Baker.  Our Panthers will take on the Bishop Brossart Mustangs at 7:00 PM.  There will be pregame ceremonies, with the crowning and winning float announcement at halftime.  The dance will be held in the gym from 9:00 PM - 12:00 AM, and is open to all 9th-12th LHS students and their dates.

Local Scholarships Now Available to Seniors

Students received a packet of information regarding this year's Ludlow Community Scholarships.  Scholarship applications can be obtained here and must be completed online and then printed out.  All scholarships, including any supplemental information, must be turned in to Ms. Currin in the High School by 3:30pm on Friday, April 26th.  Many of the scholarships require the FAFSA/SAR report so make sure you have filed.  If you have any questions regarding any of the scholarships, please contact Ms. Currin by email at melissa.currin@ludlow.kyschools.us or call 859-261-8211. 

Is Your 8th or 10th Grader On Track for College?
During Parent / Teacher Conferences on January 11th, Mrs. McMillen will help explain EXPLORE and PLAN scores to parents of 8th and 10th graders. Two sessions will be open to these parents and students. The sessions will take place in the auditorium at 5:15pm and 6:15pm.

Live Well NKY Offers Free Fitness Classes on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays for Ludlow Residents live well

Ludlow Independent Schools is a proud partner in the Live Well NKY Community Outreach Program.  All Ludlow residents are invited to attend FREE fitness classes on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays through the end of July.  On rotating dates, residents can access the Ludlow Schools' Fitness Center, EmPower Studio, and the NKY Martial Arts Academy.  Get active, Ludlow residents!  See a SCHEDULE for dates and more details.

Some baseball updates/reminders from Head Coach Matt Taske:
--  Any boy interested in playing baseball for LHS this year should plan to attend a meeting on Friday, January 5th at 3:15 PM in the HS Gym Lobby.  A schedule for weights/practice will be given out.  Workouts will begin on January 8th at 5:00 PM in the Ludlow Fitness Center.

--  Some fundraising events have been planned!  Plan to grab dinner at Ft. Wright Skyline on January 11 and Covington Frisch's on January 15 (see linked flyers). 

--  Coach Taske is looking for assistant coaches. Anyone interested in helping with the program that has coaching or playing experience at the high school level, or above, please reach out to Coach Taske at matt.taske@ludlow.kyschools.us.

 

Infinite Campus Password Changes for Student Accounts password

Students in Grades 4-12 have been asked to change their passwords the next time they log in to Infinite Campus. 

Students in Grades 7-12 can do this on their own, and should choose their own password -- one they will remember!

Students in Grades 4-6 were assisted with this process during library/class time from September 30 - October 3.

 

CCR Madness Night for Students & Parents, Grades K-9 ccrmadness

Plan to attend our next big parent night: CCR Madness -- College & Career Readiness with a Basketball Bracket twist!  Students in Grades K-9 are invited to attend with parents/guardians.  We start at 5:30PM in the cafeteria.  A family dinner will be served!  Enjoy our traditional "school spaghetti" with salad, cornbread, and dessert.  Parents will go through a "bracket" of games and activities related to careers, college, and planning for life after high school.  It's never too early to start these conversations!  Students will have their pictures taken too, declaring their possible future career.  You'll also have a chance to win some great door prizes too!

Local Planning Committee's Public Forum public forum

The Ludlow Independent Local Planning Committee will conduct a Public Forum on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 5:45 p.m. at the Ludlow Independent Board of Education, 525 Elm Street.  This meeting is an informal gathering to encourage local participation through community suggestions relative to future utilization of existing school facilities and construction of new school facilities.  These community suggestions or recommendations will be closely monitored by the Local Planning Committee in the development of a proposed District Facility Plan for Ludlow Independent Schools. The Local Planning Committee will conduct a meeting at 6:00 p.m., immediately after the Public Forum.

Seniors Should File FAFSA Starting Oct 1 FAFSA

Seniors and their parents should begin working on the FAFSA now!  Filing started on October 1st, a change from past years.  It is important for financial aid eligibility to file as soon as possible. 

 

HealthPoint Medical & Dental Services Now Available at School! HealthPoint Family Care

All Ludlow students now have access to health services at our Ludlow HealthPoint Medical & Dental Center.  Parents/Guardians, please enroll your child today if you haven't already!  Find the Enrollment Form HERE.  In addition to the services our School Nurse provides daily, we also have a Nurse Practitioner at school every Wednesday.  Our NP can provide immunizations, athletic phycials, strep tests, and prescriptions.  We also provide Dental Services now too!  Students can visit our dentist to get their regular 6-month check-ups and basic services and care.  Parents/Guardians, we encourage you to complete the enrollment packet and turn it in to your child's school office today so you can take advantage of these outstanding health and detail services!

Students Can Use Online Tutoring at Home Students Can Use Online Tutoring at Home

Parents, do you know about Compass Learning?  This individualized program provides academic support in reading and math for all students in Grades K-9.  After each MAP Test session (September, December, March), results from the test are uploaded into Compass Learning.  A backpack is created for each student individually, assigning them activities to address their areas of need, based on the MAP test results.  This is a wonderful way for your child to work on targeted content areas where they need extra support.  Compass Learning can be accessed at home too!  Consider having your child work in the program on a nightly or weekly basis.  More minutes practicing = More proficient panthers!

Exciting News for LHS!

We are thrilled to announce that Ludlow High School is a new recipient of the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant!  The new SOAR Program is similar to SHINE, but its focus is on the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades.  Ludlow will partner with NaviGo Prep to coordinate before-school, after-school, and summer programming to students. Activities will include homework help and tutoring, new clubs and enrichments, college and career readiness ...activities and experiences, and the creation of an Innovation Lab (Maker Space).  We'll partner with the Kenton County Public Library to increase literacy activities, the PEP Grant to add health and fitness activities, 4H to bring leadership, citizenship, and budgeting experiences, and Women's Crisis Center to extend the Green Dot Violence Prevention Program to the middle school grades.  NKU, Gateway, and the NKY Chamber of Commerce will also partner to add college and career readiness encounters.  SOAR will start in the Fall of 2015.  We can't wait to provide this cool and exciting opportunity to our 7th, 8th, and 9th graders!

Get Your Santa Gram!

The LHS Student Council is selling Santa Grams for $.50 each.  Write a holiday message to a friend or teacher, and the Student Council will deliver it along with a candy cane on December 19th. 

 

Students or teachers can purchase grams before school near the breakfast area or during lunch in the cafeteria.  Grams are being sold December 9th through Tuesday, December 16th.

 

Support Our Food Drive! food drive

Please support our Food Drive!  The drive runs until November 13-17.  All grade levels are collecting.  Students can bring in items and give them to their teachers.  The items collected will be donated to local community pantries that help families on our own town.  We appreciate any support you can offer!

Reports Cards for the 2nd Quarter are being sent home with students on Friday, January 8th.  Parents, please look for your son/daughter's report card so you can check their progress.  Attached to the report card are winter MAP scores.

National Safe Schools Week

The week of October 19-25 is National Safe Schools Week.  The emphasis of this year’s campaign is working toward a culture of kindness in our schools where students turn to trusted adults or each other to connect and find assistance during their time of need.  Every student needs a “go to” person.  Who is yours?  If ever there is a problem with which you are dealing, please know that there are adults at Ludlow High School who genuinely care about you and want to help you.  Determine who your “go to” person is, and please don’t hesitate to call on that person.  You may have more than one.

Food Pantry is Open to LHS Students & Families food pantry

The Ludlow High School Food Pantry is located near the Ludlow High School Office.  Serving families with students in grades 7-12, the pantry is made possible with a grant from the Free Store Food Bank.  The pantry is stocked monthly with non-perishable items such as can food items, peanut butter and cereal.  It also has freezer items such as hotdogs, sausage, pizza, and macaroni and cheese.   To visit the pantry, an LHS student or parent can stop by on Fridays between 3:00 and 4:00 PM or call Ms. Pedro at 859-261-3223 to set up an appointment.   

 

Juniors & Seniors Access New ACT Prep Course John Baylor Prep

Juniors and Seniors will use a new ACT Prep course this year, called John Baylor Prep. This program gives our Juniors and Seniors an individual path that helps them prepare for the ACT. Every Junior and Senior will be given rights to the website with a login and password. The program itself is very informative and the instructor himself, John Baylor, is extremely animated and passionate about helping your child achieve the higherst score they can, and as he says over and over again, "Get into the best school at the lowest cost."

Trimpe Wins Writing Contest

Congratulations to sophomore Kyle Trimpe for winning the annual Poetry Writing Contest at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College!  He submitted two poems and won both 1st and 3rd Place!

"Where I'm From" placed 1st and "Inner Demons" placed 3rd in the contest.

Kyle was recognized at UC's Poetry Cafe on March 23rd.  His winning poems will also be published in the next issue of the Blue Ash Review, UC's college literary magazine.

Saylor Among Nine NKY Students Chosen

Senior Pryzm Saylor was among nine students in Northern Kentucky selected for a scholarship program funded by Duke Energy.  The program covers the tuition, books, and required assessments for students to earn credentials for a CPT: Certified Production Technician.  The NKY region is in great need of students trained in the manufacturing area, since it is difficult for local businesses to fill these job openings. 


During the spring semester of her senior year, Pryzm will get a jump start on college by attending classes at Gateway Community & Technical College.  Kudos to Pryzm for taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity to get a jump start on her college degree and future career!

Support Our Teams by Dining at Buffalo Wild Wings

The Cross Country and Baseball Teams have joined together to make some money.  How can you help?  Print out THIS SHEET and take it to Buffalo Wild Wings in Ft. Wright (at the intersection of Highland and 3L) and show it to your server when you are paying your bill.  Every time you use the card, Bdubs will give the cross country and baseball teams a percentage of the sale.  It's that easy!  This fundraiser started September 1st and runs through next September 1st (2015).

FREE Summer Recreational Camps for Incoming Grades 7-12 Summer Recreation

It's not to late to join us for some summer fun!  Mr. Taphouse will be holding several FREE Summer Rec Camps for students entering Grades 7-12.  Camps run July 11 - August 12 from 12:00-3:00pm on Monday through Friday, and will be filled with fitness and fun!  Dodgeball, Basketball, Kickball, Flag Football, and more!

 

Check out the BROCHURE for details on dates and activities.  Parents must complete the registration form before students can participate.  Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle in order to stay hydrated.

Nick Butcher Makes NKY Select Band

LHS 8th Grader Nick Butcher was chosen for the prestigious Northern Kentucky Select Band.  The trumpeter will perform at Northern Kentucky University on March 16th!

Pittman Selected for TAP MD Class of 2015

Congratulations to junior Pete Pittman for being selected to the TAP MD Class of 2015!  Currently in its fifth year, TAP MD is a program designed to help exceptionally talented high school students “tap” into their potential to fulfill careers in medicine. Over 100 students have graduated from the annual program, each attending monthly observation events with physicians in Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana. To enter this career exploring program, students must be strong academically, motivated, mature, dependable and have a positive attitude.  Pete was selected for this prestigious honor along with 40 other area high schoolers.  Way to go, Pete!

New Immunization Requirements from KY Dept of Health new

There are new immunizations requirements starting the next school year of 2018-2019.

Effective July 1, 2018:

• ALL students in (K-12) kindergarten through twelfth grade must show proof of having received two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine to attend school.  Please note that these doses are given approximately six months apart from each other, so the first one must take place soon in order to get the second dose by the start of school.

• Students aged 16 years or older, must show proof of having received two doses of Meningococcal ACWY vaccine (MenACWY) to attend school. If the first dose of MenACWY was received at age sixteen (16) years or older, the second dose is not required for school entry.

Outstanding Teachers Recognized

Congratulations to Tammy Roberts and Vickie Baker!  These two outstanding teachers were nominated to receive a Golden Apple Award this year at the March 27th Excellence in

Education Dinner.  They were recognized as one of the area's Top 20 Teachers.  Both teachers are known for their dedication to the children of Ludlow, always going above and beyond the call of duty.  We certainly appreciate everything they do for students, families, and the Ludlow community.

NEW Parent Education Offerings at Friday Coffee Talks coffee talks

We invite all parents to take part in our new education series:  Ludlow Coffee Talks.  These sessions take place every Friday morning in the cafeteria from 8:20-9:20am, with a different topic each week.  A Coffee/Tea/Hot Cocoa Bar will be offered for those in attendance.  Parents are welcome to come early to eat breakfast with their child if they'd like.  This is a great way to hear more about our programs, learn ways to better support your child academically, and get more involved in our schools.  Stop by one Friday to enjoy a cup of coffee and connect with us!   See the FLYER for details.

LHS Green Team Wins Jefferson Award

Congratulations to Ms. Tammy Roberts and her Green Team!  The students in her class run the recycling program in the district.  Children, Inc. recently awarded them the Jefferson Award for running this outstanding service learning program.  The students were recognized at the High School Awards Program on May 23rd.

Pay on Cafeteria Accounts Online

Parents/Guardians can now make payments online for a student's cafeteria account.  Ludlow offers a free breakfast, lunch, and after-school power snack to all students, but they can choose to purchase additional a la carte items, snacks, and drinks.  Parents can add funds to these accounts online through the new Infinite Campus system (replacing MyFoodBucks).

To Use:

1.  Parents can log into the Infinite Campus portal (this is the same site to check grades/attendance).

2.  Click on the "Payments" tab and follow the directions to add a payment method.  Then add the amount to be placed.  You can add your email address to have a receipt emailed if you prefer.

3.  Click on the "Food Service" tab to see account balances and to view a detail of all cafeteria transactions for each student.  

4.  If parents use the mobile app too, they check account balances and even set alerts for low balances.

Dual Credit Options for Students Dual Credit Options for Students

Taking dual credit courses is a great way to save money on a college education. Dual credit courses are taken during high school, but they count as both high school and college credit.  The classes are actual college courses, and can be taken on the college campus, online, and now a few of them right here at Ludlow's campus!  Superintendent Borchers and the Board of Education are offering funding for the tuition and textbook costs for these courses for the 2014-15 school year!

 

You can learn more about what dual credit opportunities are open to YOU by talking to Mrs. Currin or Mrs. McMillen.  You can also check out our new dual credit link HERE for details about each college's program.

 

 

Attend Mr. Borchers' Coffee With the Community coffee with the community

Mr. Borchers will hold his monthly Coffee with the Community sessions this year on the first Wednesday of the month from 9:00-10:00am.  He invites all parents, families, alumni, and community members to these coffee chats at Wynner's Cup Cafe.  He will buy the coffee.  He invites you to come and ask questions or get updates about the progress of our school district.  During the first semester, these coffee chats will take place at Wynner's Cup Cafe and will move to the Folk School Coffee Parlor during the second semester.

Tech Tuesdays for Parents Tech Tuesdays

Tech Tuesdays is a new Open Lab opportunity for parents/guardians who need some technology assistance.  Every Tuesday from 4:00-5:30pm, there will be a mobile lab set up in the Cafeteria for parents/guardians to use as needed.  We can support you with assistance too!  

Possible Uses Include, but Aren’t Limited To:

  • Search for Jobs Online
  • Complete job applications
  • Create a résumé
  • Check your child’s grades in Infinite Campus
  • Pay your bills online
  • Create and access a free email account
  • Complete college applications
  • Complete the FAFSA for yourself or a child

US News and World Reports Names Ludlow High School as one of Nation’s Best US News Silver Medal
U.S. News looked at thousands of public schools to identify the most outstanding. The survey ranked Ludlow High School as the #17 high school in the State of Kentucky, which ranks in the top 8% in the state.  Nationally, Ludlow High School ranked #1776 out of nearly 22,000 schools, which puts it in the top 9% nationally!!  This impressive ranking has Ludlow High School named as a Silver Medal School. This is the third time that Ludlow High School has been named a US News Award Winning School, and the first time as a Silver Medal School.
