The school year in our district has begun very smoothly.  We thank everyone for their cooperation and hard work to make the start of the school year begin so positively.

Every spring, every junior in the Commonwealth of Kentucky is required to be administered the ACT assessment.  This assessment is used by universities and colleges as an indicator of success in college.  We are extremely pleased to share our juniors from the spring of 2009 performed at a very high level.  The average composite score in the areas of Reading, English, Science and Mathematics placed Ludlow High School in the top 20 of the 229 high schools in our state.  Ludlow ranked fifth (5th) in our region (22 high schools in Boone, Kenton, and Campbell County).  We are very proud of our students and outstanding staff in our schools that helped to prepare our students for this assessment.

Currently, Mary A. Goetz Elementary School has ten (10) volunteers for the One-to-One Reading Coaching Program.  Each volunteer will spend approximately 45 minutes a week reading and coaching a young elementary student in the content of reading.  Training and support materials are provided to coaches for this program.  If you are interested in volunteering in this program, please contact Mr. Josh Jackson (josh.jackson@ludlow.kyschools.us) , Elementary Principal for more information.

Our Advanced Placment Students in our high school are participating in a new program utilizing PC Tablets in their classes.  Each student was provided a new computer to use in their AP classes.  Teachers and staff are able to communicate electronically with their students.  All assignments and projects will be electronically submitted and graded by teachers.  Students are learning how to use the same software used at colleges and universities in addition to the rigorous curriculum in these classes.  Teachers are able to work more efficiently while effectively delivering instruction using these instructional tools.

In two weeks, our Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments will begin.  Each student in grades K-11 will participate in an on-line assessment used to determine academic strengths and areas for growth.  Individual learning plans are developed by teachers to addresses individual academic growth areas for our students.  Daily instruction is then modified and students are grouped in a manner to best address their needs.  If you have additional questions about this program, please feel free to contact our Director of Curriculum, Mike Borchers (mike.borchers@ludlow.kyschools.us) in our district office.

In addition, the district and Board of Education monitor all of the financial resources given to the district through property taxes assessed to property owners in our school district.  Everyone is experiencing difficulty during the biggest recession in modern times.  Due to the oversight of finances in the district of the Board and me, I was able to recommend to the Board to keep property taxes at the same level as last year.  The Board of Education approved this recommendation and are very pleased to be able to keep property taxes level.  We are confident our quality educational programs will be able to continue to operate at high levels using the same fiscal resources from our local community though property taxes.

Our extra curricular activities are in full operation.  Football, Girls Volleyball, Cross Country, Girls Soccer, Marching Band and Cheerleading have begun their regular seasons of competition.  Please visit our high school website for schedules of all of these activities.  Our community is very proud of our Panthers as they compete in our region against other high schools.

Thank you for the opportunity to work with your children on a daily basis.  If you ever have a question, idea, or concern, please feel free to give me a call (859-261-8210) or send me an email message (curtis.hall@ludlow.kyschools.us).
Respectfully,
Curtis A. Hall, Superintendent
