Description:

The goal of this course is to develop an understanding of chemistry.  Topics covered will include: utilization of the metric system, physical and chemical properties/changes, chemical reactions, atomic structure, understanding of the periodic table, ionic, metallic, and covalent bonding, nomenclature, stoichiometry, states of matter, gas laws, acid and bases, thermochemistry, reaction rates, redox reactions, electrochemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry. .  Laboratory exercises, demonstrations, and videos are included to reinforce the concepts covered.  Classroom participation is strongly encouraged as topics are covered in class.

  • 2017 Thomas More Summer Camp

    July 9th - July 14th.  All students that are interested in pursuing a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math this camp is for you.  You will live on Thomas More Campus and participate in numerous activities lead by the Science and Math Faculty Members.  Here is the link to to find out more  http://www.thomasmore.edu/fieldstation/summer_camp.cfm. 

    If you are interested let Mrs. High know ASAP.  Several Ludlow students have attended and really enjoyed this camp as one of the best summer camps.  Deadline to enroll April 1st.

     

  • 2017 Gateway Health Careers Camp
    Gateway to Health Careers Summer Camp this year.   The camp is for any high school student who is interested in pursuing a career in a health care field for their futures. The camp will be held June 13-17 from 9am – 3pm each day.  It is a free camp and lunch/snacks are provided for those who attend.
     
    During the camp students will be able to interact with health care professionals from various careers and get to do hands-on activities related to their profession.  Students will learn about nursing, epidemiology, physician assistant, dentistry, pharmacy, physician, medical lab, OT/PT, rad tech, pathology, EMT, a live surgery viewing opportunity, financing college, and some others who are not yet confirmed for this year.
     
    The camp is held at the Gateway Community College campus in Edgewood and in conjunction with St Elizabeth Health care.  Students can register online at www.northcentralkyahec.orgfor an appilcation see Ms. High.
     
     
  • UK Summer Camp
    The UK AHEC offers two residential summer camps for current high school students.  The 4 week Summer Enrichment Program is open to rising high school juniors (current sophomores) only (Sunday, June 22 – Friday, July 18).  The 2 week Health Researchers Youth Academy is open to rising high school seniors (current juniors) (Sunday, July 6 – Friday, July 18).  Applications are reviewed by a committee of AHEC personnel and partners from the UK campus and around the state.  Based on various criteria (letter of recommendation, personal statements, transcript, etc.), invitations are extended to students selected to attend.   See Mrs. High if you are interested.
     
    These two camp opportunities are absolutely free to those students selected. The camp includes housing, meals and materials.  Online applications are due by MARCH 14th.   See Mrs. High if you are interested.
