Welcome back to the 2013-2014 school year. Summer has gone by too fast for all of us, but it is time again to head back to school. This summer, the custodial staff has been busy cleaning the building and painting many of the classrooms. There have also been some changes in our staff over the summer. Mr. Williams and Ms. Schmidt have moved over to the elementary school from our high school. Mr. Williams will be teaching 6th grade math, while Ms. Schmidt will be our Dean of Students. We have hired a new preschool teacher, Mrs. Cornett. Mrs. Cornett is a Ludlow resident and has worked with our Young Life groups in the past. With our new additions to our staff, several teachers have changed grade levels.
Mrs. Millay- 4th Grade
Mr. Fancher- 4th Grade
Ms. Baugh- Arts and Humanities
Mrs. Greene- 1st Grade
Ms. Fisher- 2nd Grade
Mrs. Drysdale- 3rd Grade
Ms. Nickson- Kindergarten
You will also recognize the same teachers, but with new names due to getting married over the past couple of months. Ms. Lindeman is now Mrs. Zink; Ms. Hoffmeister is now Mrs. Records; and Ms. Luessen is now Mrs. Cahill.
Although the names have changed and teachers have changed grade levels, the familiar faces are all still here.
In the classroom, students will notice a change in their writing instruction, as we have adopted a new writing curriculum, Traits Writing by Scholastic. This is a school-wide program that addresses the Common Core in Writing and aligns to Kentucky’s On-Demand writing assessments. This will unify our language and instruction practices in all classrooms for our students.
Ludlow Elementary is also a recipient of a $40,000 grant from Duke Energy to develop a Business Case Study and App development for this coming school year. The funds will allow us to buy over 35 tablets for our students and give them an opportunity to participate in a ground-breaking program that is unique to any other school in the country.
There are so many great things happening for our school, students, and community in the upcoming months. We are all looking forward to the beginning of the new school year.
Please remember to pay your school fees. These fees are crucial to supporting the programs in our school. If you are unable to pay fees all at one time, we are definitely willing to work out a plan over the school year to pay them. School fees can be paid each Wednesday during the summer in the elementary office. Fees are $40 per student. Also, school yearbooks are in and can also be purchased in elementary office. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us here at school.
